Vertical Clearance Required

Measure from bottom of the sink strainer to the center of the wall drainpipe, the minimum required clearance required is 4". If the bowls have different depths, measure from the deeper bowl.

The alternatives for an installation with less than 4" of vertical clearance below the sink:

•  Look for the Snappy Trap Special Kit for Double Bowl Kitchen Sinks with Limited Vertical Distance (USA Model# DK-120), a product designed specially for  complicated installations with high wall drainpipes.

•  Replace your sink, consider shallower bowls

• Replace your sink strainer, choose one with a shallower body

• Have your plumber/contractor lower the drainpipe entering the wall. Completing this job can range from simple to complicated, depending if the main drainpipe runs vertically towards the roof or towards the floor, or horizontaly behind the wall.

Vertical Clearance Required with a Waste Disposal

For installations including a waste disposal, it is important that the disposal outlet be at least 2" above the wall drainpipe to prevent standing water in the disposal. This is recommended in all types of kitchen sink plumbing installations.
